Lanzhou City has recently announced a significant investment in improving its urban sanitation system. According to a report from the Lanzhou City Government, the city will allocate 60 million yuan this year to purchase advanced sanitation equipment. This initiative aims to increase the mechanized cleaning and collection rate to 85%, ensuring that major and secondary roads are sprayed daily and cleaned weekly. The move is part of a broader effort to modernize the city's waste management and enhance public cleanliness.
Currently, Lanzhou’s sanitation system relies heavily on manual labor, with limited use of machinery for cleaning, collection, and transportation. This has led to challenges such as insufficient investment in infrastructure, outdated garbage disposal methods, and difficulties in accessing public restrooms. To address these issues, the city plans to deploy a range of specialized vehicles, including sprinklers, road washers, snow sweepers, garbage collection trucks, and sidewalk cleaners. These efforts are expected to bring the city’s sanitation equipment standards in line with those of similar cities across China.
In addition to upgrading mechanical systems, Lanzhou is also focusing on improving access to public toilets. The city has recognized the growing demand for better restroom facilities, especially for residents and visitors. As part of this initiative, 50 new or renovated public toilets in the downtown area are set to be completed soon, with construction already underway. This project is designed to alleviate the "difficulty in toileting" and improve the overall quality of life for citizens and tourists alike.
