Chiller is a kind of water cooling equipment, is able to provide constant temperature, constant current, constant pressure cooling equipment. Cold water machine the principle is to a certain amount of water injection machine of the internal water tank, through the mechanism of cold water cooling system will be water cooling, and then have the machine within the cryogenic frozen water injection pump need to cooling equipment, cold water machine the internal heat away, the high temperature cooling of the hot water back into the water again, so exchange cooling cycle, as the function of the cooling equipment. A breakthrough in marine technology has been made by Chongqing University and Chongqing Pentium Transmission Technology Co., Ltd. They have developed a new type of water-lubricated rubber alloy bearing, which fills a significant gap in the domestic market. The project team is now working closely with local manufacturers to accelerate the industrialization of this innovative product.
This type of bearing serves as a critical component in traditional ship systems, typically located near the propeller and stern. It plays a vital role in ensuring smooth navigation. Conventional bearings are made from metals like iron or copper, requiring lubricating oil to reduce friction between the bearing and the power system, thus protecting metal surfaces. However, this reliance on oil can lead to issues such as corrosion and increased maintenance costs.
In recent years, the research team has focused on replacing metal alloys with rubber materials. By applying a special "nano-coating" through chemical processes, they have enhanced the strength of the rubber bearings to match that of traditional metal components. The technical performance of these bearings meets military-grade standards used by U.S. naval vessels.
This innovation marks a major shift from using mineral oil as a lubricant. Instead, it allows for natural water to serve as the lubrication medium, significantly reducing oil consumption and operational costs. According to the project leader, the nano-coated rubber bearings can achieve self-lubrication using water, making them both environmentally friendly and cost-effective.
The project also brings substantial economic benefits. Manufacturing bearings with this technology can cut metal material costs by up to 70%, and eliminate the need for lubricants entirely. Representatives from the Municipal Science and Technology Commission have praised the development, calling it the first of its kind in China. This advancement not only improves ship performance but also sets a new benchmark for sustainable marine engineering.
