The Great Wall K1, also known as the Huff CUV, stands out for its GW2.4S multi-point EFI engine, a collaboration between Great Wall and a renowned foreign engine manufacturer. This 2.4-liter engine delivers over 95 kW of power and more than 200 N·m of torque, making it a strong performer in its class. The K1 offers both two-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations, with front and rear disc brakes for enhanced safety and control. Great Wall Motor has ambitious plans for the future, with upcoming models such as the K2 and K3 set to join the lineup. To support this growth, the company started constructing a modernized R&D and production base in May 2003. By December 2003, funds raised from its successful Hong Kong listing were primarily allocated to the development of the K series and the construction of the new facility. The first phase of the project, with an investment of 800 million yuan, is a key initiative in Hebei Province and is expected to be completed by August this year, with a production capacity of 100,000 vehicles annually. By the end of next year, Great Wall aims to build a passenger car plant capable of producing 250,000 units per year, and by 2006, the company’s total production capacity is expected to exceed 400,000 units. In addition to the K1, other notable models include the Peugeot 206, which will be produced at Dongfeng Peugeot next year. It comes in two-door, four-door, and hatchback variants, with engine options ranging from 1.1L to 2.0L. Mercedes-Benz E240 will be manufactured at Beijing Benz and is expected to launch in a few months, starting with the 2.6L version, priced between $48,170 and $61,970 internationally. BYD’s F6 is the company’s first independently developed sedan, featuring a 2.4L engine, 8 airbags, ABS, EBD, DVD, GPS, and advanced driver-assistance systems like reverse imaging and radar. Its suspension system includes a triple-link front and four-link rear setup for improved handling and comfort. The Cadillac SRX will be assembled in China this year, available with either a 4.6L Polaris V8 or a 3.6L V6 engine. The 4.6L engine produces 232 kW at 6,400 rpm and 420 N·m of torque at 4,400 rpm, while the 3.6L model delivers up to 191 kW. The SRX also features a large sunroof that creates an open space of 0.46 m² above the front and second-row seats. Hyundai’s Tucson (Tusheng) is a top-selling small SUV, competing against the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Mitsubishi Outlander. Priced between $17,000 and $22,000, it offers a range of engine options, including a 2.0L four-cylinder and a 2.7L V6, along with standard features like four-wheel disc brakes and remote keyless entry. Toyota’s Crown, set to roll out from Tianjin FAW Toyota later this year, boasts a new platform, a 3.0L V6 gasoline engine with dual VVT-i, and a six-speed automatic transmission. It also includes a knee airbag for added safety. The Cadillac CTS, planned for production at Shanghai General Motors this year, is equipped with a 3.2L V6 engine that delivers 164 kW of power and 298 N·m of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7 seconds. Shanghai Volkswagen is set to produce the Touran MPV on the new PQ35 platform, which is also used for the new Golf A5 and Audi A3. The compact Touran is available in 5- and 7-seat configurations, with dimensions of 4.39 meters long, 1.79 meters wide, and 1.63 meters high. Nissan’s Teana, launched in Japan last February, will be introduced in China this fall. With a wheelbase of 2,775 mm, it offers more interior space compared to the Wind. It features three engine options: a 2.3L V6, a 2.5L inline-four, and a 3.5L V6, paired with a CVT transmission. The 2.3L engine provides 127 kW of power and 225 N·m of torque.
