It's always important to ensure that our website remains accurate, especially when it comes to detailed information about fire departments and their equipment. Recently, when North Aurora Fire Protection District was added to our site, we mistakenly listed some units as being located in the annex building. Unfortunately, this information quickly became outdated. We appreciate feedback from our readers who help us correct any inaccuracies, so if you notice something amiss, please don't hesitate to reach out.
One such instance arose when Brian Kazmierzak from the Clay Fire Territory in South Bend visited our site. He recognized a unit that looked familiar and sent us an email along with a picture of Clay Fire Tactical Rescue 2 (T2). This vehicle bears a striking resemblance to North Aurora Fire Protection District’s Technical Rescue 540.
As it turns out, the Clay Fire Territory purchased this unit back in July 2010 from North Aurora. Since September 2010, it has been serving as part of the MABAS Division 201 Tactical Rescue Team. It’s fascinating how equipment can move between departments and continue its service elsewhere.
I’ve included a couple of images below to give you a better idea of what these vehicles look like. The first image shows Clay Fire Territory’s Tactical Rescue 2, which used to be North Aurora Fire Protection District’s Technical Rescue 540. You can see the strong visual similarities between them.

The second image highlights North Aurora Fire Protection District’s Technical Rescue 540 before it was transferred. Notice the distinctive design elements that were later carried over to the Clay Fire Territory unit.

Brian also mentioned that Technical Rescue 544, a 1997 Freightliner FLD/Fruehauf model, is now stationed in Aurora. This adds another layer to the story of how firefighting resources are redistributed across different regions.
It’s always exciting to learn about these transitions and how departments adapt by reusing or repurposing older equipment. If you have any updates or corrections regarding fire department assets, feel free to share them with us. Your insights help keep our content fresh and reliable!
