In October, the production and sales of passenger cars saw a monthly decline, but still maintained year-on-year growth. From January to October, overall market demand for various types of passenger vehicles continued to rise, with cumulative sales of light buses surpassing the total from the entire previous year.
Looking at the overall production and sales figures for October, passenger car production stood at 26,400 units and sales reached 26,500 units. This represented a 24.35% drop in production and a 23.90% decrease in sales compared to the previous month. However, both metrics showed significant year-on-year improvements, rising by 16.73% and 24.01%, respectively. Among the main categories, large, medium, and light passenger vehicles all experienced declines from the prior month. Medium-sized vehicles were hit the hardest, with production falling by 36.82% and sales dropping 36.39%. Large passenger cars saw production of 4,153 units and sales of 3,759 units, down 28.01% and 26.57% from September, but up 18.08% and 18.62% year-on-year. Light passenger vehicles, on the other hand, recorded 17,368 units produced and 18,112 units sold, a monthly decrease of 18.85% and 19.24%, yet still managed a strong year-on-year increase of 23.40% and 33.46%.
From January to October, total passenger car production reached 288,200 units, while sales totaled 288,800 units—both up by 17.98% and 19.30% year-on-year. Large passenger vehicles had 41,100 units produced and 39,100 units sold, showing increases of 19.89% and 16.71%. Medium-sized vehicles reached 57,900 and 57,100 units, up 12.36% and 11.50%. Light buses led the market with 189,200 and 189,600 units produced and sold, rising by 19.39% and 22.44%.
Regionally, from January to October, most areas in China saw double-digit growth in passenger car sales, except for the Southwest region, which only saw a modest increase. Central South China led with 45,300 units sold, up 29.11% year-on-year. Northeast China sold 27,300 units, a 15.15% increase, while North China sold 41,900 units, up 14.29%. East China recorded 71,900 units sold, an increase of 12.33%, and the Northwest region saw 16,600 units sold, up 13.10%.
In terms of vehicle types, off-road passenger vehicles remained stable, with sales reaching 10,500 units—a 1.4-fold increase year-on-year. City buses, tourist buses, and private buses also saw strong growth, with 59,800, 17,200, and 250,000 units sold, respectively, up 15.82%, 26.89%, and 25.35%. Small passenger cars and long-distance buses had more moderate growth, selling 88,000 and 46,200 units, up 11.27% and 8.20%. Articulated and trolleybuses, however, struggled, with sales of just 231 and 31 units, down 48.09% and 88.39% year-on-year.
Looking at top-selling companies in October, Brilliance Jinbei led with 5,002 units sold, followed by Nanjing Iveco with 2,105 units. Xiamen Golden Brigade, Jiangling, Southeast, Zhengzhou Yutong, Zhongshun, Beiqi Futian, Sichuan FAW Toyota, and Jinlong United (Suzhou) sold 2,066, 1,862, 1,557, 1,512, 1,422, 1,268, 1,239, and 896 units, respectively. All ten companies saw monthly declines, with some drops exceeding 30%. However, they all posted year-on-year gains, with Brilliance Jinbei leading at 44.69%.
From January to October, the top ten companies included Brilliance Jinbei, Nanjing Iveco, Jiangling, Xiamen Golden Brigade, Yutong, Southeast, Zhongshun, Beiqi Foton, Jinlong United (Suzhou), and Sichuan FAW Toyota. Their combined sales totaled 201,900 units, representing 70.64% of the total passenger car market. Brilliance Jinbei alone sold 52,100 units, marking a 10.79% increase year-on-year, while Nanjing Iveco saw a sharp rise of 51.77%. Overall, these companies demonstrated strong performance across the first ten months of the year.
