At the 2007 Taipei International Rubber and Plastics Industry Exhibition, Hu Yongjin, chairman of the Plastics Machinery Professional Committee of the Taiwan Machinery Association and CEO of Baisu Enterprise, openly shared insights on how Taiwan's injection molding machine manufacturers are responding to economic challenges. He highlighted that despite the downturn, the industry has been focusing on developing high-performance models through continuous research and innovation. Taichung Seiki showcased an electric-hybrid injection molding machine called the Va-150-Hybrid, which is based on advanced servo control technology. Unlike traditional oil-electric hybrid machines, this model combines the efficiency of all-electric systems with the energy storage capabilities of an accumulator. This allows for an impressive injection speed of up to 1200 mm/s while significantly reducing energy consumption. The machine is particularly well-suited for producing high-viscosity or thin-walled components, such as memory cards, IC cards, and battery cases used in the computer, telecommunications, and electronics sectors. Bai Plastic introduced a high-speed injection molding machine with an injection speed of 1500 mm/s, demonstrating excellent product quality. At the exhibition, a PC card housing was tested by being bent forcefully without breaking, thanks to the advanced pressure system design. The CLF-180TX pressure-retaining multi-circuit machine from Bai Plastic was developed to reduce processing time and lower production costs. For instance, when manufacturing a PET preform with a diameter of 32 mm and a weight of 75 g, using one cavity with 48 cavities, the cycle time was only 28 seconds, showcasing its efficiency. Nanxun presented a BMC (Bulk Molding Compound) injection molding machine, which is reportedly half the price of similar foreign models. It also introduced a double-stencil die-molding machine featuring a new clamping mechanism that uses only two templates, reducing the machine size by 30% and making it lighter. This helps lower the initial investment required for production facilities. In the area of two-color and multi-color molding, companies like Quan Lifa, Baisu, Nanxun, and Zhenxiong all displayed their products. Nanxun’s TNRX-230 two-color machine uses a fixed mold base and interchangeable mold cores, allowing for faster mold changes and reduced costs—cutting mold expenses to less than one-third of traditional methods. Meanwhile, Zhenxiong’s direct pressure two-color injection molding machine features a rotating turntable that can handle either a single set of two-color molds or two sets for dual-color injection. Many manufacturers, including Taichung Seiki, Zhenxiong, and Qunji, exhibited all-electric injection molding machines at the event. According to Wang Zhengqing, deputy director general of the Taiwan Machine Industry Association, the industry has formed an R&D alliance focused on all-electric machines. These machines are expected to become widely adopted in high-value industries such as computers, electronics, telecommunications, medical equipment, and precision machinery due to their high injection speed, low power consumption, short forming cycles, energy efficiency, cleanliness, low noise levels, and ease of maintenance.
