San Francisco, CA — April 23, 2019 — PlanGrid, an Autodesk company and a leading provider of construction productivity software, has launched a groundbreaking integration with Autodesk Revit. This new feature, called PlanGrid BIM, allows users to access Building Information Modeling (BIM) data directly on their mobile devices, whether in 2D or 3D format. This is the first major integration between PlanGrid and Autodesk following the acquisition, marking a significant step forward in bridging the gap between design and field operations.
Jim Lynch, vice president and general manager of Autodesk Construction Solutions, emphasized the importance of this development: “BIM has transformed the way architects and engineers design, and Revit is the industry standard during pre-construction. With PlanGrid’s integration, users can now leverage BIM data beyond the planning phase, gaining real-time access to critical information right at the jobsite.â€
PlanGrid BIM connects the rich data from the design process to the construction and operations phases, enabling teams to make more informed decisions. Traditionally, BIM models are converted into PDFs, which strips away essential data and limits the ability of field workers to visualize and interact with the model. PlanGrid BIM changes that by allowing users to tap into detailed BIM properties within 2D drawings or switch to a 3D view for better spatial understanding—all from the same platform.
The new BIM functionality includes three key components:
- **BIM-enabled Sheets:** Users can tap on objects to view details like dimensions, material types, and manufacturer information directly in a 2D layout.
- **3D BIM Viewer:** A simplified 3D viewer allows users to explore models offline, with tools for measuring and snapping to objects.
- **Revit Integration:** Sheets are published directly from Revit into PlanGrid, ensuring accurate data, sheet numbers, and titles, while maintaining all PlanGrid features like callouts and hyperlinks.
This integration not only improves accuracy and reduces rework but also enhances communication among trades, ultimately leading to safer and higher-quality work. PlanGrid BIM is available today on iOS and web, with Android and Windows support coming soon.
