Bill Friedrich has shared photos of four new fire apparatus deliveries to departments in Divisions 12, 13, and 19. Notably, the first three units are all finished in a black-over-red paint scheme, a look that Wheaton Fire Department has used for many years. St. Charles previously had a white-over-lime green color scheme, but they transitioned to black-over-red several years ago. Meanwhile, Oak Brook Terrace had long maintained a white-over-red design, but their latest engine marks a shift to black-over-red, signaling a new era for the department. The first image shows Wheaton’s 2010 Pierce Impel pumper, Engine 431. It features a 1,500-GPM pump and carries 750 gallons of water. This unit continues the department's traditional color style. Next is Oak Brook Terrace’s new engine, Engine 311, built by Marion on a Spartan chassis with a Gladiator Classic MFDR cab. This is the first time the department has opted for a black cab roof, moving away from their long-standing white roof tradition. The engine is equipped with a 1,500-GPM pump and a 1,000-gallon water tank. Several detailed shots show the engineer’s compartment, which is designed for easy access, as well as the rear of the truck with a low hose bed and secure webbing as required by NFPA standards. A hydraulic ladder rack and vehicle extrication tools are also featured on the curbside side. St. Charles’ Truck 101 is a 2010 Pierce Arrow XT quint with a 1,500-GPM pump, a 500-gallon water tank, and a 100-foot aluminum aerial. Bill Friedrich captured this unit in action. Lastly, Manhattan Fire Department received a new engine, Engine 1221, built by Alexis on a Spartan chassis with a Gladiator Classic cab. It includes a 1,500-GPM pump and a 750-gallon water tank. This addition brings modern equipment and a fresh look to the department’s fleet.
