Bill Friedrich has shared photos of four recent fire apparatus deliveries to departments in Divisions 12, 13, and 19. Notably, the first three units are all finished in a black-over-red paint scheme, a color combination that Wheaton has used for many years. St. Charles previously had a white-over-lime green scheme but switched to black-over-red several years ago. Oak Brook Terrace, which had been using white-over-red for a long time, now also adopts the black-over-red look with its new engine. The first image shows Wheaton Fire Department’s Engine 431, a 2010 Pierce Impel PUC (Serial #23210). It features a 1,500-GPM pump and carries 750 gallons of water. The second photo captures Oak Brook Terrace’s new engine, built by Marion on a Spartan chassis with a Gladiator Classic MFDR cab. This unit is equipped with a 1,500-GPM pump and a 1,000-gallon tank, and it marks the department’s first black cab roof, breaking from their traditional white roofs. Further details about the Oak Brook Terrace engine show a well-designed engineer’s compartment, a low hose bed with secure webbing as required by NFPA standards, and a hydraulic ladder rack on the officer's side. The curbside also includes hydraulic tools for vehicle extrication. These images give a great look at the modern design and functionality of the new apparatus. In St. Charles, Truck 101 is a 2010 Pierce Arrow XT quint with a 1,500-GPM pump, a 500-gallon water tank, and a 100' aluminum aerial. Finally, Manhattan Fire Department received a new engine, Engine 1221, built by Alexis on a Spartan chassis with a Gladiator Classic cab. It features a 1,500-GPM pump and a 750-gallon water tank. These updates highlight the ongoing modernization of fire apparatus across several departments.
