At Autodesk, innovation isn't just a value—it's the heartbeat of our company. It fuels everything we do, from the products we create to the experiences we design for our people. And I'm incredibly proud to share that Autodesk has once again been recognized as one of Fast Company’s Best Workplaces for Innovators in 2023. This award is more than just a badge of honor; it's a testament to the creativity, collaboration, and forward-thinking culture that defines us. We believe that when employees are empowered, they can drive real change—both within the company and beyond. That’s why we continuously invest in programs and environments that foster creativity, encourage risk-taking, and support growth. To celebrate this recognition, I spoke with three incredible leaders at Autodesk who shared how their initiatives are shaping the future of work and innovation. --- **Workplace Innovator: Jenny Lum, Director of Global Projects** **Program:** Embracing a hybrid-first workplace "Other companies are pushing for full-time office returns, but we took a different approach. We introduced Flex Forward, a model that gives employees the freedom to work anywhere in the world where we operate. It’s not about being remote or in-office—it’s about flexibility that works for both people and the business." "Our offices are designed to be dynamic spaces that support different ways of working. From quiet focus zones to collaborative hubs and social areas, every space is built with employee choice in mind. Plus, we launched the Autodesk Conference Experience (ACE), which acts like a concierge service for in-person events, helping teams make the most of every meeting." "The result? A stronger talent pipeline, especially among underrepresented groups. Flex Forward is more than a policy—it’s a culture shift that helps us attract and retain top talent while driving innovation." --- **DEI Innovator: Ramona Blake, Senior Director of Diversity & Belonging** **Program:** Diversifying leadership development "At Autodesk, we know that diversity doesn’t just happen—it must be nurtured. That’s why we created NEXT LEVEL, a leadership development program specifically for underrepresented Autodeskers of color. Through one-on-one coaching and mentorship, we're building a strong foundation for future leaders." "One of the most innovative parts of the program was the 'Innovation Idol' capstone. Participants were grouped into teams and challenged to develop a machine learning solution for a real-world problem. It was a powerful way to bridge the gap between leadership development and technical innovation." "The impact has been huge. Not only did participants gain new skills, but they also saw how their ideas could directly influence our products and services. This program is shaping the next generation of diverse leaders who will continue to drive innovation at Autodesk." --- **Impact Innovator: Christine Stoner, Executive Director of the Autodesk Foundation** **Program:** Democratizing employee-led grantmaking "We wanted to give our employees a voice in how we support communities. That’s why we partnered with our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to launch a grantmaking pilot. We gave them $140,000 in unrestricted funding to distribute to nonprofits of their choosing." "This process was highly innovative. ERG leaders were trained on strategic grantmaking, including how to define an impact thesis, conduct due diligence, and engage the community in decision-making. The result was a truly employee-driven initiative that reflects the values and priorities of our diverse workforce." "From supporting Latinas in tech to inspiring BIPOC girls in STEM, these grants are making a real difference. It’s proof that when we empower our people, they create meaningful impact—both inside and outside the company." --- At Autodesk, we’re not just building software—we’re building a better future. Our commitment to innovation isn’t limited to technology; it extends to how we work, how we lead, and how we give back. A culture of innovation is what will unlock the next big idea that makes buildings greener, products smarter, and stories more compelling. In short, it’s what helps us design a better world for everyone. Meet four innovators from Autodesk Research who are helping shape a more sustainable and inclusive future.
