From Scott Peterson: This morning, around 10:30 AM, I responded to a structure fire at 21 South Hi Lusi Avenue. Upon arrival, Tower 13 was the first unit on the scene and reported heavy smoke conditions. The incident was quickly escalated to a Code 4, though Engine 13 was not required. The fire was severe on the second floor of this one-and-a-half story Cape Cod-style house. As I got there, crews were already evacuating the building due to a partial floor collapse on the second floor. Initially, firefighters took a defensive approach, using water streams to control the flames for a few minutes before switching to an interior attack. Unfortunately, getting to the rear of the property proved challenging because most yards had tall fences blocking access. However, I could see there was a significant bump-out addition on the back of the second floor. Units from multiple departments assisted in upgrading the response to a Code 4 level, including AHTS Tower 1, DESP Engine along with their Battalion Chief, EGRT Engine 11, ROLM Engine, and GLVW Engine Command/Quarters. Great work by everyone involved! It was impressive to see how efficiently the teams coordinated under such challenging circumstances.
