As I drove by 45 W Hintz Road in Wheeling this morning, I noticed a significant number of fire trucks gathered outside Crothall Laundry Services. My curiosity piqued, I pulled over to get a closer look. It turns out that Wheeling firefighters had responded to an automatic alarm and found heavy smoke billowing from the industrial laundry facility upon their arrival.
The initial engine company quickly assessed the situation and requested a working fire upgrade, signaling the need for additional resources. Firefighters wasted no time in entering the expansive industrial building, where they located the source of the fire—a commercial dryer. Thanks to their swift action, the flames were successfully extinguished before any mutual aid companies could arrive on the scene.
It was impressive to see how well-coordinated the response was, with multiple fire trucks and emergency personnel mobilized. One of the standout pieces of equipment was the Rosenbauer Commander fire truck, which played a crucial role in managing the situation. There was also a Buffalo Grover FD Tower 25 Ferrara, another impressive piece of firefighting machinery.
Even though the fire was contained quickly, it was a stark reminder of how essential these services are in our communities. As someone who witnessed the aftermath, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the dedication of the firefighters who put themselves in harm’s way to keep us safe.
