Liquid Epoxy (LE) Coated Line Pipe

LE liquid epoxy coated line pipe is a high-performance solution designed to protect steel pipes from corrosion, especially in water and gas transmission systems. The coating is applied using a two-part liquid epoxy system, which ensures a durable, single-layer protection that cures after application. This method is widely used for both internal and external coatings, offering long-term reliability and cost-effectiveness.

The coating standards followed include AWWA C210, SHELL DEP 31.40.30.35, EN 10301, ISO 15741, and API RP 5L2. These standards define the materials, application methods, and performance requirements for liquid epoxy coatings used in various pipeline applications, ensuring compliance with industry best practices.

AWWA C210 specifies the requirements for internal and external liquid epoxy coating systems on steel water pipes. SHELL DEP 31.40.30.35 focuses on non-corrosive gas transmission pipelines, particularly on the inner coating. EN 10301 covers internal coatings for reducing friction in non-corrosive gas pipelines, while ISO 15741 sets out the criteria for antifriction coatings inside steel pipelines. API RP 5L2 provides guidelines for internal coatings of non-corrosive gas transfer pipelines.

During the coating process, the pipeline undergoes cleaning and sandblasting to ensure proper adhesion. Liquid epoxy is then applied via a spray gun, forming a uniform layer that cures over time. For internal linings, the pipe ends are sealed, and the coating is applied through a spray system that moves along the pipe’s interior. Preheating may be used to enhance the coating’s quality and performance.

Internal liquid lining is particularly effective in improving flow efficiency by minimizing frictional resistance. It also helps prevent corrosion, extending the lifespan of the pipeline. Typical internal coating thickness ranges from 60 to 100 microns, depending on the application. For water pipes, the coating thickness is usually between 400 and 500 microns, using advanced solvent-free epoxy resins that offer excellent durability and environmental benefits.

External liquid coatings are applied using similar techniques, providing protection against external corrosion. Available coating types include liquid epoxy, polyurethane (PU), and UV-curing varnishes, each suited for different environments and conditions.

Liquid epoxy coating is a versatile and reliable choice for both water and gas pipelines. Its ability to reduce maintenance costs, improve flow efficiency, and extend service life makes it a preferred option in the industry. Whether for underground or underwater installations, LE coating offers a proven solution for long-term performance and safety.
