This is from Steve Redick: The incident took place in the early hours of Monday on the 2900 block of Irving Park Road in Chicago. It was a large commercial building featuring a bowstring truss in the rear and a flat roof in the front. I arrived just as the fire broke through the roof, making it a challenging scene to manage. The conditions were tough—light rain, heavy smoke that stayed low, and a center median with plenty of trees. Plus, the Snorkel and one of the tower ladders were out of service. Two tower ladders and a Snorkel were set up early, but communication problems arose. There were a few photos of a crew using a large line at the mouth of an alley to protect a nearby frame structure. You can also see some shots of Truck 13 with their new Crimson aerial (probably an ERV or something similar). The fire lasted for several hours, and crews were still on scene until around lunchtime. Here’s a selection of the images. It was a tough call with some real challenges, but the crews did a great job under difficult conditions. These images really capture the intensity of the scene and the effort put in by everyone involved.
