Updated at 10 AM On Sunday night, residents in Northfield reported smoke in the area of the 300 block of Eaton Street. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from an unknown source throughout the block. As crews were walking the area, the engineer drove the engine to the next block and discovered heavy smoke pouring from a one-story, brick ranch-style home at 344 Wagner Road. Tim Olk photo As Glencoe firefighters enter the house, Northfield firefighters search the garage where they found the lights on a vehicle were illuminated. Tim Olk photo The alarm was upgraded to a Code 4 for a working fire, and Northfield units quickly mobilized. Mutual aid responded from Winnetka, Northbrook, Glenview, Glencoe, and Wilmette. The fire was brought under control rapidly. Fortunately, no one was inside the home at the time, but the family dog did not survive the blaze. Northfield Squad 29 was the first unit on the scene.
