From what Larry Shapiro shared: Emergency services were dispatched to the site of a severe head-on collision this afternoon on Old McHenry Road, just north of Cuba Road in Long Grove. Upon their arrival, first responders found a car involved in an accident with a semi-truck, which had resulted in a fire and left the driver of the car trapped inside. Firefighters managed to extricate the individual quickly and rushed them to Condell Hospital. Fortunately, despite the fire spreading close to the passenger compartment, it was swiftly brought under control. The semi-truck was parked on the shoulder—on the wrong side of the road, facing northbound while its driver was delivering construction materials up a lengthy driveway using a forklift mounted on a piggyback truck. The semi's driver claimed he noticed smoke as he approached the area but didn’t hear the collision. Before the fire department arrived, both he and a Lake County Sheriff's deputy attempted to douse the flames using portable extinguishers.
