As we gear up for one of our favorite events of the year—Autodesk University 2018, where we gather over 10,000 customers and partners—we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey of BIM 360 over the past year. In that time, we've released 33 updates, introduced more than 130 features, and established 60 new software integrations. This rapid pace of development has allowed us to strengthen our partnerships with customers while delivering cutting-edge technology designed to streamline key construction workflows. Centralizing project information for all stakeholders and fostering innovation through enhanced access and analysis of data are at the heart of what we do. Together with our customers, we’re pushing boundaries and creating solutions that empower construction teams to operate more efficiently than ever before. ![](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/43fe7098c56312166bd9742164ed20f1.jpg) **Next-generation BIM 360 Platform** Last November, we unveiled a sneak peek of the next-generation BIM 360 platform, which represents a complete overhaul of our BIM 360 products. This new platform is built on a common data foundation, seamlessly connecting design and construction processes, teams, and information. Customers are already embracing BIM 360 to power workflows such as: - **Project Controls**: Managing RFIs and submittals with precision. - **Document Distribution**: Ensuring the right information reaches the right people at the right time. - **Revit Cloud Work-Sharing**: Reducing friction across teams with controlled sharing and curated package delivery. - **Coordination**: Leveraging automated clash detection to resolve potential design conflicts early. - **Quality and Safety Inspections**: Using customizable templates to maintain project standards. - **Syncing Office and Jobsite**: Keeping everyone aligned with the Desktop Connector and a unified mobile app for iOS and Android. - **Real-Time Updates**: Keeping teams informed with Project Home and detailed reports tracking every aspect of project activity. Today, we’re excited to announce the addition of cost management capabilities to BIM 360. Keeping projects within budget involves meticulous oversight of budget items, and this new feature integrates contracts, budgets, and change order management into the platform. The cost management module will be available as a limited availability pre-release in December, and those eager to explore its potential should reach out to [contact details]. ![](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/802e66873e454dd1b92e2a4517d7a306.png) **Forge and an Open Platform** While supporting core AEC workflows remains a cornerstone of the BIM 360 platform, our commitment extends far beyond that. Built on Forge, BIM 360 fosters collaboration within the growing software ecosystem. Since launching the BIM 360 Integration Partner Program last year, we’ve welcomed 60 new software integrations, expanding our construction partner network to over 100 companies. These include partners like 3DR, DESTINI Estimator, BuilderBox, EarthCam, Egnyte, FotoIn, HoloBuilder, SiteSense, NoteVault, OnTarget, Pype.io, Sensara, Triax, and many more currently in development. These integrations ensure that project information from various software systems flows seamlessly into BIM 360, creating a single source of truth. They empower customers to harness insights from their innovative construction technologies, streamlining connected business processes. Through investments in the Forge Fund, we’ve backed companies like eSUB, ManufactOn, Smartvid.io, Rhumbix, and Project Frog, each offering groundbreaking cloud-based solutions to enhance construction project delivery. This year’s most significant acquisition was Assemble Systems. Paired with the robust data generated through Revit, Assemble’s technology enables 4D and 5D estimating and scheduling. It empowers construction teams to plan projects, manage bids, estimate costs, and execute assembly works. Assemble provides a SaaS solution that allows professionals to process, query, and link BIM data to essential workflows spanning bid management, estimating, and scheduling. By ingesting models, drawings, and point clouds in a user-friendly cloud environment, Assemble bridges gaps across the design, preconstruction, and construction phases. **Model Coordination** The BIM 360 platform introduces powerful features that simplify construction coordination by automating both clash detection and resolution. Key enhancements include: - Assigning clashes as issues directly in BIM 360 and notifying relevant team members. - Marking certain clashes as resolved if they don’t require attention (e.g., minor overlaps or field adjustments). - New filtering and grouping options for aggregated models. - Advanced viewer tools for multi-model visualization to facilitate issue resolution. Previously, BIM 360 users could aggregate models, run automatic clash detections upon publishing, and review clash results—all functionalities introduced last year during the preview. However, the ability to handle multi-format 3D models sets BIM 360 apart from traditional construction management apps focused solely on 2D workflows. Model coordination is among the highest-value processes for general contractors, subcontractors, and fabricators, spanning the entire project lifecycle—from design and quantification to fabrication, on-site layout, installation, and commissioning. While we continue addressing current challenges, we’re also looking ahead. Software currently manages RFIs and change orders, but we’re exploring predictive analytics earlier in the coordination phase to preemptively address costly RFIs and change orders. Many Autodesk customers already leverage our AI and machine learning capabilities in BIM 360 to boost safety and quality. Now, they’re encouraging us to apply similar advancements to model coordination. Rest assured, we’re actively working on it. ![](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/6baffd530320462643ee5a1b97935318.jpeg) **Connected Data Leads to Predictability** Digitizing processes and consolidating data is the pathway to predictability. The BIM 360 platform is designed to centralize project data from the inception of a Revit model to the final stages of construction. It enhances the value and usability of data and geometry throughout the project lifecycle, transforming raw information into actionable insights via: - Simple dashboards for monitoring project progress and mitigating risks. - Comprehensive reporting to assess overall project health. - Intelligent insights extracted through machine learning to identify, prevent, and forecast project risks. The BIM 360 platform, coupled with tighter integrations to Autodesk’s industry-leading authoring tools, enables customers to centralize project data and optimize their projects from start to finish. This interconnected approach is the route to predictability, transitioning from digital transformation to integrated, automated workflows, and extracting meaningful insights to drive continuous improvement. With these advancements, we’re committed to helping construction teams navigate the complexities of modern projects with confidence and efficiency.
