At around 5:00 AM on Thursday morning (January 5th), I captured these images from a junkyard near 48th and Morgan Streets. Initially, it was reported by the first responding company as a pallet yard, but from the street view, it appeared more like a chaotic pile of debris with some stacks of pallets catching fire. Engine 50 positioned themselves inside the yard, which was not visible from the public roads. Attached below are a series of photos taken by me, Eric Haak, during the incident. The first image shows Chicago Fire Department’s Engine 49 on site. The second photo captures the intensity of the fire raging through the truck yard under the cover of darkness. The third shot highlights firefighters working diligently amidst the cluttered environment. [Image description: A clear view of Engine 49 stationed at the scene. It was a challenging task given the nature of the materials involved and the limited visibility due to smoke and darkness. This incident underscores the dedication and skill of our local emergency responders who work tirelessly to protect our community.
