I just got this update from Eric Haak. He shared some photos he took at a fire scene in Lowell, Indiana on April 29. Even though the address was in Lowell, the fire actually happened within the Lake Dalecarlia Volunteer Fire Department's district.
From what Eric described, a Lowell fire engine was deployed to draft water from a nearby pond, and they stretched almost 1,000 feet of 5-inch hose to reach the fire. It seems like most of the water used during the firefighting effort came directly from that pond.
I’ve attached some photos Eric took showing the aftermath of the fire, as well as the firefighters in action. You can see one of the engines actively drafting water from the pond, which is pretty impressive given the circumstances. There are also shots of the firefighters working on overhauling the scene after the blaze was under control, along with some moments of them resting and taking a breather post-action.
It’s always interesting to see how these departments adapt when standard water supplies aren’t readily available. The large diameter hoses and the use of the pond really highlight the resourcefulness needed in situations like this.
