The influence of China's pesticide industry on the international market is increasing. In 2010, China's pesticide exports and exports achieved simultaneous growth; the total volume of imports and exports increased year-on-year, accounting for 12.3% of the world's total imports and exports; and exports were spread throughout 166 countries and regions in the world. On March 15th, the Chemical Industry Branch of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade released this information at the 5th China International Forum on the Development of Pesticide Industry held in Shanghai.

Imports and exports from the customs data show that in 2010 China's import and export of pesticides was 1,261,300 tons, an increase of 14.3% over the previous year; imports and exports amounted to 5.292 billion US dollars, an increase of 14.6%, pesticide import and export surplus was 1.35 billion US dollars. Among them, the export volume of pesticides was 1,126,300 tons, an increase of 14.3% over the previous year; the export value was 4.848 billion US dollars, an increase of 13.8%. Exports of pesticides and exports have not changed in proportion to previous years, and they have achieved simultaneous growth.

Director of the Department of Import and Export of the Institute of Pesticide Testing of the Ministry of Agriculture Ye Guibiao said that in 2010 China's pesticide exports to 166 countries and regions, including the United States, Australia, Japan, Russia, Canada, Germany, France, Britain, Italy and other developed countries. Among them, the United States is China's largest pesticide market. In 2010, the export volume was more than 93.5 million tons and the export value reached more than 570 million US dollars. At the same time, the world's major grain-producing countries Brazil, Argentina, and most Southeast Asian countries and regions have also imported large quantities of pesticide products from China.

After years of development, the pesticide industry in China has shown unique advantages. The market-based production and supply system has basically been established, and an industrial system with private economy as the main body has been formed; the ability to autonomously participate in internationalization has been continuously enhanced; the degree of organization of the industry has been continuously improved. While maintaining the status of the mainstay of the national industry, it also maintains a certain international competitive position. As of the end of 2010, China had 1,819 pesticide companies, and pesticide production accounted for more than one-third of the world's total.

However, the pesticide industry still has deep-seated contradictions that are large but not strong, fast but not refined, and small and scattered. The lack of new product research and development and environmental protection investment has resulted in serious pollution of “three wastes” and lack of effective treatment methods for special pollutants.

In response, Zhao Jungui, deputy chairman and secretary-general of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, who attended the forum, pointed out: “The pesticide industry needs to: Strengthen the restructuring of the company's organizational structure, make it bigger and stronger, and promote the original pesticide companies and pharmaceutical companies. Merge and reorganize, extend the industrial chain, build an integrated large-scale pesticide enterprise group; pay more attention to scientific and technological progress and safety and environmental protection issues; to have an international perspective, to be close to the international advanced level in management, technology, quality, standards, etc. ready."
