Historic Fire Department Archives Now Live

The website currently features 128 fire departments, including the Chicago Fire Department. Most of these departments are displayed with current station photos and images of every vehicle assigned to each station. From the beginning, the goal of the contributors has been to add historical photographs to complement the modern images. Today, we officially launched this effort by introducing a historic gallery linked to the Sauk Village Fire Department (MABAS Division 27). This gallery currently includes 18 images provided by Bill Friedrich, showing the evolution of the department’s vehicles from 1969 onward. The photos reveal that the department's color scheme changed over time—from red, to white, and now black over red. Bill is planning to scan more slides and negatives to expand the collection to other departments in the future.

Our goal is to continue expanding these historic galleries by incorporating images from various sources, including our regular contributors. We welcome submissions from anyone who has historical photos or documents to share. These galleries can include posed photos, action shots, patches, old stations, fire scenes, and anything else that helps tell the story of these departments. We encourage readers to contribute what they have in their personal collections to help build these archives for the enjoyment of all.

We believe that preserving the history of these fire departments is an important part of honoring the service and dedication of those who have come before us. By sharing these images, we hope to create a valuable resource for future generations and for anyone interested in the evolution of emergency services. If you have any photos, stories, or memories related to your local fire department, please consider sharing them with us. Together, we can build a richer, more detailed record of our fire service heritage.
