Historic Archives Begin to Take Shape

The website currently features 128 fire departments, including the Chicago Fire Department. Most of these departments are displayed with their current station photos and images of every vehicle stationed at each location. From the beginning, the goal of the contributors has been to add historical photos to complement the modern visuals. Today marks a significant step forward as we launch the historic gallery for the Sauk Village Fire Department (MABAS Division 27). This gallery currently contains 18 images provided by Bill Friedrich, showcasing the department's vehicles from as far back as 1969. The photos reveal that the departmentâ€™s color scheme evolved over timeâ€”from red to white, and finally to black over red. Bill plans to continue scanning slides and negatives to expand this collection to other departments in the future.

We hope these historical galleries will continue to grow with more contributions from regular participants and others who have interesting archival material. We encourage anyone with historical photos or documents to submit them so we can preserve and share the rich history of these fire departments.
