As an active safety device, ABS (Antilock Braking System) has been widely used in modern automobiles. Because the control method and working process in the braking process are different from the ordinary braking system in the past, it is also different from the traditional braking system in terms of use and maintenance, otherwise it will cause failure of the ABS system.

Summing up many years of maintenance experience, the author believes that vehicle owners must use “four to four” and “four to not” when using vehicles equipped with ABS.

Four to (1) Always keep your foot on the brake pedal and do not relax. In this way, sufficient and continuous braking force can be ensured so that ABS can effectively function.

(2) Keep enough braking distance. When driving on a good road, you must at least ensure 3 seconds of braking time from the front of the vehicle; on bad roads, you have to leave braking for a longer time.

(3) The ABS should be practiced beforehand so that it can prepare and adapt to the vibration of the brake pedal when the ABS is working.

(4) Read the driver's manual in advance. In order to further understand the various operations.

Four Don't (1) Do not be more casual when driving a car with ABS than a car without ABS. Some car owners think that the safety of cars is increased after they are equipped with ABS. Therefore, the mind will relax when driving and lay a hidden danger for the accident.

(2) Do not step on the brake pedal repeatedly. When driving a car with ABS, repeated steps on the brake pedal will make the ABS work intermittently, resulting in reduced braking performance and increased braking distance. In fact, ABS itself will automatically increase or decrease the braking force at a higher rate and provide effective directional control capabilities.

(3) Do not forget to control the steering wheel. During braking, the ABS system provides the driver with reliable directional control, but it does not automatically complete the steering operation of the vehicle. In the event of an unexpected situation, people need to complete the steering control.

(4) Do not be intimidated by ABS's normal hydraulic noise and brake pedal chatter during braking. This sound and chatter is normal and allows the driver to sense ABS at work.
