Recently, the national "863" project, led by China National Offshore Oil Research Institute, "Key Technology of Underwater Production System Umbilical Cable" passed the acceptance of the Ministry of Science and Technology. The acceptance expert group believes that the research and development results have filled the domestic gap, which has accumulated valuable experience in the design, manufacture and test verification of the umbilical cable of the underwater production system, and has effectively transformed the research and development capability into the production capacity of the enterprise. Localization has laid a good foundation.

Because the design of the umbilical cable should take into account the functions of power supply, communication, hydraulics, etc., it must also meet the dynamic response requirements of complex sea conditions, and its material strength, flexibility, corrosion resistance and penetration resistance are extremely high. For a long time, the umbilical cable product technology has been monopolized by a few foreign companies. The umbilical cable used in China is all dependent on imports.
In order to make breakthroughs in key technologies of umbilical cord cable, in June 2009, the Ministry of Science and Technology officially approved the project “Research on Key Technologies of Umbilical Cables for Underwater Production Systems”. The project is led by CNOOC Research Institute in the form of joint research, production, learning, research and development, and is jointly implemented by Ningbo Dongfang Cable Co., Ltd., Dalian University of Technology, and Shanghai Cable Research Institute. The researcher carried out a series of key technical research on the problems of underwater umbilical cable selection, design, manufacture, testing and applicability of the South China Sea environment, and broke through several key technical difficulties such as cable design and mechanical analysis. Developed the first umbilical cable sample cable for underwater production system in China. The cable has been tested to meet the requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards and is suitable for water depths up to 1500 meters.
It is understood that the main achievements of the research group include: the development of umbilical cable design and analysis software with independent intellectual property rights; the establishment of a special production line for umbilical cable; the development of a umbilical cable with a working depth of 1500 meters; Test equipment, complete the mechanical performance and functional test verification of the sample cable unit and the whole cable. The project undertaker has applied for 7 technical patents and obtained 2 software copyrights. Some of the technical achievements have been applied to marine dynamic cable products, which has effectively promoted the localization of dynamic cable products.
