South Chicago Heights photo history

In MABAS Division 27, a new historical gallery has been introduced to honor the South Chicago Heights Fire Department. This collection currently showcases 15 photographs, including a reproduction of an old image depicting the original fire station from the early 1900s. The photo offers a glimpse into the past and highlights the community's long-standing commitment to public safety.
This vintage image, sourced from the Bill Friedrich Collection, captures the original South Chicago Heights fire station. While the exact date is unknown, it provides a nostalgic view of the departmentâ€™s early days. Interestingly, the fire engine featured in the photo remains unidentified, adding an air of mystery to its historical significance.
Taken by the late Dan Martin, this photograph showcases a 1950 Mack Type 45 pumper that was proudly displayed during a local parade. It reflects the pride the department took in its equipment and the role it played in the community.
This striking image features one of only two Hi-Ranger aerial ladder trucks in the greater Chicago area outside of the Chicago Fire Department. The unit, designated as Truck 765, was a notable part of the South Chicago Heights fleet. It would be incredible to see more photos of this rig in action, capturing its service during real emergencies. Adding such images to the gallery would bring the department's history to life even more.
