The Braidwood Fire Department, located in Will County, has recently been added to the site under Division 15. Though small in size, with just one station, Braidwood is home to a diverse and well-equipped fleet of apparatus. In fact, it takes two full pages on the site to showcase all of their vehicles. The department operates two ambulances, one engine, one pumper tanker, a mid-mount tower ladder, and three squads.
What makes Braidwood particularly unique is its connection to one of Illinois’ nuclear power plants. Their official logo reflects this transition from the past—when coal mining was central to the local economy—to the present, where nuclear energy plays a key role. This creative design symbolizes the town’s evolution and is a standout feature of their fire department identity.
All the photos featured here were generously provided by Karl Klotz, who has captured the essence of Braidwood's firefighting equipment and history. The images include the iconic "From Coal to Atoms" logo, a Spartan Alexis pumper/tanker, a Smeal mid-mount tower ladder, and the only E-ONE Cyclone heavy rescue unit in their fleet. These visuals give a clear picture of the department’s modern capabilities and historical significance.
