Box Alarm fire in Skokie 12-10-13

Last night, at 7661 Marmora, temperatures were in single digits. The building was once a campus that housed adults with challenges, but I don’t think it's used for that purpose anymore. It's located on a cul-de-sac, and the fire hydrant near the structure is on a dead-end main line, as I was told. They had some long lead lines in place to get extra water to the scene. When we arrived, the fire was already through the roof, and they had master streams operating quickly. These are the first photos I’ve been able to capture of their new Engine 17. Ice and extreme cold definitely played a big role in this incident. The building looked larger than your typical cottage-style structure, which makes me think it might have served as an administrative center or office space in the past. Maybe some of the list members can help confirm that.

Also, I just want to mention that bright blue Mars lights on a fire truck really ruin the quality of photos. It’s hard to get good shots when the lighting is so intense and unnatural. Still, it’s always great to see the new equipment in action, especially under such tough conditions. Hopefully, this gives everyone a better idea of what happened last night. Let me know if you have any more info on the building’s history.
